How to carry on living when you are a physical artist with an injured body ? Where is my place ? I know that it exists. I do not want to exhibit my injured body ; I want to make it dance. I want to make it exist in its new and different beauty. I want to invent the strange language of my new body. I still feel that I am a circus performer.
In this duo created with Sanja Kosonen, the roles of Oedipus and Antigone enable us to transcend my own story, whilst symbolising the tremendous forces that have sustained me all these years.
In his novel Oedipus on the road, Henry Bachau tells us about a journey – the one that Sophocles might have imagined between the two tragedies, Oedipus Rex and Oedipus in Colone: the wanderings and interior journey of a man confronting the dark side of his nature. This is where my research lies. Antigone is a vital part of this journey, as was Agathe, my companion, whose life was also overturned on the day of my accident. She is the first Antigone. Together, we are searching for the way to overcome our drama and carry on living…
